We believe that the identity of men accused of rape should not be secret – we believe in open justice. There is not anonymity for men accused of any other crime so why should rape be different? When a man accused of rape is named, this can often lead to other victims coming forward – this is obvious in the case of Jimmy Savile, for example. The argument that a rape accusation is somehow a special case as it will ruin a man’s life is wrong – accusations of child abuse or murder or terror are no less severe. Anonymity for men accused of rape helps rapists at the expense of rape victims.
