They should jail rapists, not women who report rape. Women are being jailed for perverting the course of justice after reporting rape whilst the vast majority of rapists walk free. The prosecution of these women gets disproportionate media coverage and puts women off reporting rape. Layla Ibrahim was convicted for perverting the course of justice after reporting rape and served a 3 year prison sentence. She refused to withdraw her statement under pressure from the police. Women should not be coerced into withdrawing reports of rape, by relatives of the man or by the police . The police should be focusing on convicting rapists not criminalising women who report violence.
